Production

Year - 2017; this barrel-selected wine from Quinta do Tedo's Savedra parcel is produced only in superb years!

Grapes - a field blend from our estate's oldest (60+ years) Savedra parcel vines, composed of more than 24 grape varietals.

Terroir - schist soil, Mediterranean climate (low yearly rainfall and dry, hot summers), grade A classified vineyards at a slightly higher elevation than those we harvest our Port wine grapes from.

Winemaking - hand-picked, estate-grown grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and put into stainless steel tanks, where they undergo pre-fermentation maceration for 3 days, followed by temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation for 7 days, and a final 5 days of post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks (40%), and new and used, 225 liter (60 gallon), French oak barrels (60%), followed by aging for 24 months in new, 225 liter (60 gallon), French oak barrels before blending and bottling.

Annual Production - 2,000 bottles *Unlike our Douro DOC, made every year, and Reserva, made only in great years, we make the Grande Reserva only in the best years!

Alcohol - 14%

Tasting

See - deep ruby with purple highlights.

Smell - complex dark fruit with orange peel, dry tobacco, elegant French oak, and black pepper spice and a savory tinge.

Sip - full-bodied with robust structure and age-worthy tannins, flavors of blackberry and French oak in youth and more savory underbrush and smooth spice with age; long and persistent finish.

Enjoy - now or in 10+ years, decanted for an hour before serving at room temperature (17°C/63°F) with slow-cooked, red meat-based stews, reduced sauces, slow-roasted meat and game, and/or dry, aged cheeses - this full-bodied and concentrated wine sings the Douro Valley version of Côtes du Rhônes.
